Why We Do It
Wisconsin credit unions' sponsorship of brass typifies their statewide REAL Solutions initiative, which helps families and communities, regardless of profit. By offering REAL Solutions, credit unions are teaching consumers to save, avoid financial predators, access low-cost loans, improve creditworthiness and build wealth.

Wisconsin credit unions’ REAL Solutions effort was recognized with a first-ever, 2006 Governor’s Award for Financial Literacy, an honor that acknowledges innovative financial literacy efforts that improve the financial health of Wisconsin’s citizens. |
Examples of other REAL Solutions include:
-
Short term or payday loan alternatives that don’t charge excessive fees and interest
-
Help with budgeting or debt
-
Free classes on personal finance, e.g. credit, ID theft or home-buying
-
Other programs they may offer to help members realize their financial goals

While offering these services does not drive profits for credit unions, they offer them as part of their mission as cooperatives. The purpose of not-for-profit credit unions is to serve members, not make profits.
